Beat it…DDC’s Athletes
More than 1 in 3 people will develop some form of cancer during their lifetime.
In the 1970s, less than a quarter of people with cancer survived. But over the last 40 years, survival has doubled – Today half will survive!!!
In the UK the most common causes of cancer are:
- Breast cancer
- Lung cancer
- Prostate cancer
- Bowel cancer
At Cancer Research UK changes are being made to ensure that we see 3 in 4 people survive cancer by 2034.
Cancer Research UK believes in bringing people together to raise money, to beat cancer.
Their Race for Life initiative is a series of routes around the country that give people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities the chance to come together and show cancer who’s boss.
“They’re not races, or runs, and everyone wins the Race for Life (except cancer). Our participants come from different backgrounds, with different stories, but with one thing in common – the determination to help beat cancer. “
Team DDC were delighted to be part of this growing movement. Key members relished the challenge of joining in a local Race for Life event in Wolverhampton.
Prior to the day there was much excitement and enthusiasm amongst our team. Planning, fundraising and preparing for the 5k energised everyone in the office.
Lindsey Hristova, our Senior Data Analyst enjoyed being part of this initiative and shares her purpose for getting involved: “One of my longest hospital stays was 3 months, this was spent with some very special people who had bone cancer and during this time we were all there for one another, supporting each other no matter what time of night or day it was. Truly special people, truly special cause.”
An initiative like this benefits teamwork as well as our sense of purpose and well-being. It also demonstrates how working collaboratively impacts on our success.
As expected, there was a fantastic atmosphere on the day, even though it was challenging at times due to the high numbers involved and a little rain to negotiate. Our team enjoyed getting into the music and dancing too!
Team DDC proudly raised £564 for Cancer Research UK. #BeatCancer
